SKINNING, FLESHING & MOUNTING A COMMON GOLDENEYE STANDING
by Second 2 Nature Taxidermy Supply with Craig Jones 1 ½ Hrs
Craig starts with wetting the breast feathers to make a part, he then makes a breast incision and skins the duck. He measures the carcass to order a urethane form. He removes the leg bones and inverts the wings to clean. A throat incision is made to skin out and remove the skull. A wire wheel is used to clean and degrease the duck, then soaked in soapy water. After rinsing, it is soaked in lacquer thinner and then tumbled. Craig carves a skull from foam and inserts it into the skin, pushing the bill into the foam skull and pinning in place. The duck is mounted with a urethane body and sewn up. It is attached to a piece of driftwood, positioned, eyes set and groomed. Craig explains about wrapping birds with twine to dry.
