SKINNING, FLESHING & MOUNTING A PEACOCK (OM) STANDING
by Second 2 Nature Taxidermy Supply with Steve German 3½ Hrs (2 Disc Set)
Steve starts with a breast incision and skins the bird, including inverting the legs and wings. The bird’s head was a little freezer burnt, so he explains how to rehydrate the area and soften the skin. Most of the excess fat is removed by hand and scissors to eliminate a lot of mess and time spent a on the wire wheel, since this bird will not be washed or tumbled due to the tail plumage. A wire wheel is used to clean the skull, wing/leg bones and fat left on the skin. This bird is mounted on a urethane body in the standing position on a fence post. Pinning, positioning, grooming, making a brace for the tail to dry and setting eyes is shown. Steve makes a tongue from Apoxie for this open mouth mount and finishes with the painting. Also includes base work.
