by Second 2 Nature Taxidermy Supply with Tommy Ramage 1¾ Hrs
Tommy starts with a breast incision and skins the duck. He removes the lower portion of the skull and will build back with Ear Base later. He then hand fleshes the duck. He removes the wing bones. The duck is washed in soapy water then rolled in a towel to squeeze out the water. He applies Dry Preservative inside and out and places the duck in a tumbler. Tommy builds up the breast area on the urethane body with excelsior and twine. Eyes are set and then he mounts the duck on the urethane body and sews up incision. He works on positioning and grooming. A support wire is inserted into the duck, then into a piece of driftwood. Everything is taped, carded and pinned in place to dry. Once dry, he removes the carding and tape. Tommy paints the bill, eye rings and feet with a paint brush to finish this beautiful mount.
